Henning – General Manager

Henning Schmidt was born in Germany, but has been living in Tanzania since 2007. Even while he was studying for his degree in Business and Tourism, he worked as a tour guide in Africa. He is in charge of the bigger picture; the financial aspect, dealing with authorities and unions for visas and licenses and assessment of emergency plans. Henning has been to Kilimanjaro’s summit several times on various routes. His tip is to take it easy. “There are so many people who climbed Kili and insist that their way is the only way to succeed. Over the last 50 years all kinds of people with all kinds of climbing strategies climbed Kili and most of them made it”.

Christian – Operation manager

Originally from Germany, Christian Seifert worked in Germany as a sales consultant for a tour operator specialising in tours to Africa. His job now includes organizing and conducting the briefings before the climb and doing gear checks. He and his team have to make sure equipment for the climb and climbers, mountain crew, food provisions and transport are in place. In addition he selects the crews for each climb, ensuring the guides and porters will suit the guest profile.
The ops manager is the central point of communication between ground staff and the mountain crew and he is the primary contact for any emergency. In climbing season his phone is on – day and night, 7 days a week.

Franco – Head guide and climb coordinator

Franco Kasian our head guide, stood on top of Africa´s highest mountain more than 400 times before a tragic accident ended his 20 year career of guiding guests to the roof of Africa. His experience of the mountain and knowledge about equipment and the people working on it, is now of great value for the management, planning and operating Kilimanjaro climbs. Franco works behind the scenes to make sure that every piece of equipment and every crew member is at the right place at the right time – an important skill in Africa.
